Research Assistant META – PINET, BCBL, Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain

We are looking for a candidate with an interest in research and neuroscience to work on a project in collaboration with Meta AI on decoding the neural correlates of language production. You will be in charge of collecting MEG data and recruiting research participants. In addition, you will be processing video recordings to extract finger tracking measures. Training will be provided for all the tasks you will be involved in, but autonomy, general scientific curiosity, and willingness to learn are expected. According to your interests, you will get involved in data analysis and writing up research papers.

Application deadline: October 4, 2024

Funded Ph.D. Candidate Position in an ERC Advanced Grant Project “Cortical Rhythms”, BCBL, Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language, Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain

Speech processing and reading are essential unique human abilities underpinning social, educational, and professional advancement. However early biomarkers of speech processing deficits that have been documented in reading disabilities such as Developmental Dyslexia (DD) have yet to be identified. Here, we will explore whether the cortical tracking of speech (CTS) - the temporal alignment between fluctuations in the speech signal and fluctuations in electrical brain activity – can predict later reading deficits in DD.

Speech processing and reading are essential unique human abilities underpinning social, educational, and professional advancement. However, biologically constrained models of spoken and visual word recognition are still lacking, particularly in the domains of bilingualism. Here, we will investigate the neurobiological underpinnings of speech and reading in bilinguals and second language learners using data collected with advanced neuroimaging tools in our lab.
