Journal

The Journal of Cognition (JoC), the official journal of the European Society for Cognitive Psychology, publishes reviews, empirical articles (including registered reports), data reports, stimulus development reports, comments, and methodological notes relevant to all areas of cognitive psychology, including attention, memory, perception, psycholinguistics, and reasoning. We also publish cross-disciplinary research if we judge that it has clear implications for development of cognitive psychological theories. As a signatory of the Center for Open Science's Transparency and Openness Promotion guidelines, we value methodological rigour and transparent scientific practices. We welcome submissions from scholars working anywhere in the world.

Journal of Cognition (JoC) is currently led by Editor-in-Chief Candice Morey (Cardiff University). Beginning January 2026, Davide Crepaldi (University of Pavia) will assume the role of Editor-in-Chief. Below, he shares a message to the ESCoP community and invites nominations for Associate Editors:

Dear ESCoP community,

As announced during our Business Meeting at the Sheffield conference, I’ll soon take over from Candice Morey as Editor of our beloved Journal of Cognition (JoC).

Let me take this chance to thank Candice again for her wonderful work with the journal. JoC is now a very well established venue for careful and sound Experimental Psychology research, on par with outlets that are widely regarded as gold standards in the field. This year, we also have to celebrate the fact that JoC received an impact factor (2.3), making it a more attractive outlet also for people in countries where this is an important evaluation factor. We all have Candice and her Editorial Team to thank for this!

One of my first tasks is to select the new team of Associate Editors, who will run the journal with me. Of course, it’s a task of paramount importance and, I think, a nice career chance for many of us in the Society. So, with this message, I’m soliciting nominations for these positions. Self nominations are also most welcome.

We currently have 8 Associate Editors (AEs); it’s likely I’ll be looking to recruit around the same number of AEs. Applications are welcome from all corners of the community, both geographically and in terms of research field. I also welcome nominations at all career levels; junior candidates are very much encouraged to self-nominate, if they feel they’d be qualified for the task and can guarantee that they’ll be around for the four years of my mandate. Previous editorial experience is of course a plus, but it’s not strictly required.

Please address the nominations directly to me (at davide.crepaldi@unipv.it). Those who self nominate should also send me a CV and a brief text where they explain their vision for the journal and why they think they’re qualified (people nominated by others will be contacted directly by me with the same request, of course).

I’m looking forward to receiving your expressions of interest. JoC is really a gem, let’s mobilize our talents and take care of it!

Cheers,

Davide Crepaldi
