The Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness (ASSC) is an academic society that promotes rigorous research and coordinates annual conferences directed toward understanding the nature, function, and underlying mechanisms of consciousness.

This position, within the FWO-funded STATMIND project, investigates how prior linguistic knowledge shapes the statistical learning of new linguistic regularities. The researcher will develop computational measures from language corpora and Distributional Semantic Models and use them to design experiments and model how prior knowledge influences the learning of novel words, in collaboration with Ghent University (Prof. Louisa Bogaerts) and based at the University of Pavia (Prof. Luca Rinaldi). 

This position investigates how linguistic representations contribute to mental representations and cognitive control, combining computational models of semantic knowledge with behavioural and EEG measures. The researcher will design and implement experiments, collect and analyse behavioural and neurophysiological data, and integrate computational and cognitive-neuroscience approaches to study the relationship between language, mental representations and cognitive conflict.

Our research at BogaertsLab focuses on the cognitive science of learning and language. This position is part of the FWO-funded project “Growing a Statistical Mind: The Interplay Between Emerging and Existing Linguistic Knowledge” (STATMIND). STATMIND aims to investigate the dynamic interplay between previously acquired linguistic knowledge (including semantic properties of language structures) and the incidental learning of new patterns. Achard and colleagues for their remarkable paper, "Extending continuous flow models of immediate decision reports to delayed decision reports.".

We are delighted to announce the winner of the ESCoP Early Career Publication Award for Postdocs! The evaluation committee—Tilo Strobach, Ana Sá Leite, and Luca Moretti—noted an exceptionally high standard across all applications this year, ultimately awarding Marius C. Vollberg and colleagues for their outstanding paper, "Place-related representations in setting the stage for empathy" (Cognition, 2026).

We learn new words almost on a daily basis: as adults, a new element is introduced in our vocabulary every other day. With new words, we also learn about new objects and ideas - in most cases new words are not simply additional labels to be applied to familiar objects: they connote meanings that are unknown to the speaker of a language.

The Statistics in Psychology Team at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) is looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate. The post involves research and teaching-related tasks. The International Cognitive Load Theory Conference (ICLTC) is annually organized by The International Cognitive Load Theory Association (ICLTA). The conference aims to create a platform for researchers, educators, practitioners, and designers from around the world to share advances in cognitive load theory and innovations that extend beyond traditional instruction. 

We are offering a 3-year postdoctoral research fellow post in association with an ESRC grant investigating skilled reading in Arabic. The project involves a computational component, a megastudy, and a set of eye-tracking experiments.  The fellow will be based in Prof Kathy Rastle's lab at Royal Holloway, University of London, but will be engaging frequently with co-investigators Prof Denis Drieghe (Southampton) and Dr Sami Boudelaa (UAE). Join us!

The Attention & Social Cognition Lab at McGill University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join our dynamic team under the direction of Professor Jelena Ristic. Our lab, located in the Department of Psychology at McGill University in the heart of Montreal, Canada, explores cutting-edge questions in social perception, cognition, and interactive (group) cognition using behavioral, neuroimaging (EEG), and eye-tracking methods.

The Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL) is offering a PhD position within the Cortical Tracking of Speech (CTS) project. The project aims to investigate how Cortical Tracking of Speech (CTS) changes over time as a function of second language (L2) learning, and whether these neural dynamics are influenced by language modality (spoken vs. signed). 

We are looking for a postdoc to work with us on the capacity limits of cognition (working memory, attention, long-term memory, ...). The position is for 3 years with possible renewal for another 1.5 years. Ideal starting date is January 1st, 2026, but could be a bit earlier or later.

ESCoP invites applications for sponsoring one additional thematic meeting scheduled for 2026, offering partial funding of up to 4,000 euros per event. These meetings, organized exclusively by ESCoP members, should focus on research areas relevant to the Society and be limited to 60 participants, with at least 50% of senior attendees being ESCoP members. The ESCoP is thrilled to announce that we will sponsor the 11th European Working Memory Symposium (EWoMS 2026)! EWoMS is a recurring, high-profile event dedicated to the study of working memory, taking place every two years in rotating European locations. The 2026 edition is scheduled to be held in Lyon, France, from August 26th to 28th. This edition’s theme will be — Working Memory, Strategy, and Consciousness and the keynote speaker will be Alessandra Souza from Porto University.

As part of its commitment to nurture the next generation of cognitive scientists, the European Society for Cognitive Psychology (ESCoP) through its evaluation committee formed by Alessandra Souza and Vanessa Loaiza, is delighted to announce financial support for two seasonal schools that will run in 2026: Music & the Brain: from basic research to clinical and societal implications and MESEC Mediterranean Workshop on Consciousness Science.

EWOMS is a recurring, high-profile event dedicated to the study of working memory, held every two years at rotating European locations. The 11th edition will take place in Lyon, France, from August 26th to 28th, 2026. The 2026 theme — Working Memory, Strategy, and Consciousness — aims to bridge traditional cognitive perspectives and neuroscientific approaches to working memory (WM). We will explore how strategic control processes, awareness, and unconscious mechanisms interact to shape WM performance.

We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Dr Angela de Bruin's research group in the Department of Psychology at the University of York. The Research Associate would be working on a project funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) under the UK government's Horizon Europe funding Guarantee for selected ERC grants, examining multilingual language control and use in younger and older adults. The current part of the project aims to understand how context, in particular the conversation partner's language behavior, influences how multilinguals of different ages produce and use their languages.

This Brain Conference will bring together a unique and interdisciplinary group of internationally recognised experts in evolutionary biology, computational cognitive neuroscience, developmental psychology, systems neuroscience, genetics/epigenetics and clinical psychiatry, to promote synthesis and synergy between the computational, social and life sciences to advance knowledge about the adaptive mind.

Human cognition is highly adaptive and can reason flexibly with new information. A crucial element for this is our working memory: a quick, reliable, and flexible system to maintain information temporarily, as needed, when needed. The goal of this project is to advance the understanding of how working memory is implemented in the human brain. To this end, the main objective is to develop a neural model of human working memory.
