A four-year PhD position in computational cognitive science at the Center for Research in Cognition and Neuroscience, Université libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium

The (Un)Adaptive Mind Lab is recruiting a highly motivated and creative PhD candidate with experience in computational modelling. This position is part of the ERC Starting Grant ‘WiseSeek’, which aims to uncover the unknown dynamics of maladaptive digital information consumption.

Each day, 60% of the world’s population engages in online information consumption, often encountering negative content. This exposure to negative information has been linked to adverse effects on people’s well-being and mental health. For example, persistent engagement with negative online content, often termed ‘doomscrolling’, heightens the risk of psychopathological conditions. WiseSeek aims to confront this challenge by developing an interdisciplinary approach across psychology, computer science, and neuroscience to understanding the mechanisms underlying decisions to consume information with such negative consequences.

Application deadline: 1 May 2026
